Popeye
We have just received some very sad news, Popeye has crossed the
rainbow bridge.
In Memory of Popeye
Popeye had been living at Rugby
Creek for the last 5 years. He went there on vacation and
decided to stay. He loved it there and had many friends, both animal
and people. He also liked it because people had to come to visit him and he
could entertain them.
Popeye always had a twinkle in his eye and trouble up his paw.
The cocked head always made you think he was planning something,
which he usually was. He was that kid that instigated trouble, but
was such a charmer you never could stay angry at him.
He never met a person, pet or farm animal that he could not con
into doing his bidding, most were very willing. He had no fear and
believed no one would harm him. This was evident when he would walk
through the horse pastures.
Popeye always had a hug for you and would let you pet him until his
heart was content. There were many Popeye stories but the two that
stick in my mind are; Santa pictures and when his was stuck in a
tree.
Santa Pictures
Santa was having pictures done in the lobby with all the cats and
dogs and Popeye just keep sitting under the tree to be in each
picture. He was put up many times but somehow he made it back, so if
you look at Santa pictures from about 5 years ago you will see a
"Popeye lump" under the tree skirt in many pictures.
Stuck in a Tree
What happens when you have a 100 foot tree, a one eye cat, and
rural fire department with a short ladder- The scare of your life.
Popeye climbed the very tall tree and could not get down. We called
the fire department whose ladder was too short. So Dr. Covington
left work and drove 3 hours to the rescue. Long story short we had
to cut the tree down and we thought Popeye came down in the
rumble-but no. He comes wandering over wondering what all the fuss
was about.
Popeye was the kindest, most honest cat I have known. For all
who knew Popeye today is a sad day. Just remember Popeye's motto-hmm..
what can I get into now.
Smile when you think of Popeye for he is in
heaven charming everyone into bringing him treat while he looks for
a big comfy bed to nap on.
